This collection consists of field notes regarding bird observations in diary format, handwritten in ink on unlined paper and grouped by year from 1896 to 1910. Most volumes are originally bound with string, though the 1899 volume is bound into a notebook with an embossed suede cover. The volumes include newspaper clippers pertaining to ornithology and climate.

Content Description These notebooks are largely about birdwatching in New England and include what birds were seen, when they were seen, and where they were seen. There are large sections that have more observations of behavior and habits. There are also pages with quotes inscribed by the author in the book, appointment notes, and other thoughts. This collection contains bulletins written by Edward H. Forbush for the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture in his position as Massachusetts State Ornithologist. The bulletins, grouped by year from 1918-1927, include information on weather and bird sightings, questions and answers, and other pertinent information to Massachusetts birders.
