Content Description

This collection consists of one bound volume of 20 short (1-5 page) handwritten essays by Isabel P. Reagh and three loose documents that were stored in the back of the notebook. The loose documents include an additional short essay, a full-length essay, and a book list. Compositions include reading and lecture responses, personal stories and reflections, creative writing exercises, and history essays. The materials were created by Reagh during 9th and 10th grade at Girls' High School in Boston. Some of the compositions have been graded by the teacher and include comments and corrections. The bound volume lists Reagh's class as 9-B, and the loose pages are labeled 10-D. Materials were approximately created during the years 1897 to 1898.

Biographical / Historical

Isabel P. Reagh was born July 15, 1879, in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. She attended the Mt. Vernon School and the Robert Gould Shaw School in West Roxbury, and the Girls' High School in Boston. Her brother, Arthur L. Reagh, was a noted bacteriologist and ornithologist, and had ties to the Boston Society of Natural History.
