Scope and Contents
This series consists of 39 albums documenting Washburn's early experiences with mountaineering and his expeditions, often with his wife Barbara, and one album of early family photographs. Locations include Alaska and the Yukon region of Canada, the Alps, and China. These albums contain silver gelatin prints in a variety of sizes, including panoramas. The majority of images document people and activities before, during, and after the expeditions, including Washburn’s photographic process and cartographic activities.

Conditions Governing Access
The collection is open to researchers.
As a preservation measure, the researcher is required to follow extra handling procedures, and for fragile materials, some materials may only be handled by the Archives staff during a research appointment.
For onsite access, researchers must schedule an appointment with the Archives as far in advance as possible; a minimum of three weeks is requested. Contact Archives@mos.org for more information.
