Subseries 5: Amne Machin Expedition, 1946 - 1954
Scope and Contents
This subseries contains Washburn’s records from the failed 1948 expedition to Amne Machin. It includes correspondence from the planning and aftermath of the trip, maps, press coverage from Western and Chinese sources, commercial prints purchased by Washburn, and photographs. Photographs by expedition members are included, along with images taken by Joseph Francis Charles Rock on an earlier expedition to the region of Amne Machin.

This collection is open for research with the exception of certain files that are listed as restricted. Certain files which contain sensitive legal, financial, or personal information are restricted.
As a preservation measure due to the fragile condition of some materials, access may be restricted to where only Archives staff can handle the materials.
