Scope and Contents
This subseries includes press coverage and external recognition of Washburn’s photographic, cartographic, and mountaineering work. Materials include magazines, newspaper clippings, programs from events attended by Washburn, brochures for lectures given by Washburn, and advertisements for exhibitions and publications featuring Washburn’s work. Topics range from Washburn’s early mountaineering and photographic work, later cartographic projects, museum exhibits and gallery showings, and broader career retrospectives. This subseries also includes audiovisual material about Washburn’s mountaineering career: interviews, television features, and copies of a documentary film, “Operation White Tower,” about Washburn’s 1947 expedition to Denali.

This collection is open for research with the exception of certain files that are listed as restricted. Certain files which contain sensitive legal, financial, or personal information are restricted.
As a preservation measure due to the fragile condition of some materials, access may be restricted to where only Archives staff can handle the materials.
