Content Description

This collection contains records of theater plays, administration, and programs of the Science Theater Department. Play Materials contain scripts, correspondence with writers, photographic material, CDs, and one floppy disk. Administrative Materials contains performance evaluations along with other text materials, Insights newsletters, architectural plans, and photographic material. The programs series contains publicity materials, demonstration records, and other texts. Some exhibit materials are found in the Play and Program series.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection is open for research with the exception of any institutional records that are less than 25 years old and any personal records that are less than 75 years old are closed to researchers. Certain files which contain sensitive legal, financial, or personal information are restricted. We have limited technology to access CDs and floppy discs in the collection.

Conditions Governing Use

The Science Theater Records contains materials that are still under copyright. In particular, the Museum of Science maintains copyright over many of these materials. The records also contain works whose copyright is held by other individuals and organizations. The researcher assumes all responsibility for identifying copyright holders and attaining permission for reproduction.

Biographical / Historical

The Science Theater Department conducted programs and short plays that within the Museum of Science, Boston. While currently not an active department, the Department previously staged educational plays, programs, and performances on a variety of topics and exhibits.

The collection is arranged into three series and within each series, materials are organized alphabetically: Series 1: Play Materials, 1985 - 2005; Series 2: Administrative Materials, 1986 - 2001; and Series 3: Program Materials, 1985 - 2005

Custodial History

The assumption is that the Archives received these records from the Science Theater Department at an unknown date. Materials were found in storage in 2023.
